Porthouse Theatre
Porthouse Theatre is an outdoor theatre space based out of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. This theatre runs through Kent State University where staff and students work at this theatre. Porthouse abides by the guidelines of the University Resident Theatre Contract with Actors’ Equity Association.
Before Load in At Kent State

Strike speakers down in theater space at Kent
Set up to load trucks in loading dock
Get a battery count and element count
Load into Porthouse
Took two 40 foot truck loads to get all the equipment to Porthouse from Kent.
First truck was all road cases, cable carts, bucket lift, filing cabinets and shelves
Second truck was all lights and speakers
Stored all lights and road cases in dressing rooms at theatre
Hanging Speakers and Running Cable
Hanging speakers
Hung 5 main speakers on grid
Hung 5 delays on catwalk with 3 second delay patched to them
One foldback speaker with orchestra feed patched to it
SFX speaker for sound effects
Sub was flown in the air and put in the middle of the grid
Running Cable
1000ft of speakcon cable to speakers on grid and catwalk to dimmer room and amp rack
XLR for headset to the board connected by snakes
Network for video feeds (stage feed and Music Director feed)
Used scissor lift to get to the grid
Walked on I Beams to get across the grid and run cable for Speakcon
Speaker Plot
Used a Genie Lift to hang speakers and run power to them from the Amp rack in the Dimmer Room to the grid. To access the grid from the catwalk my team had to harness and connect to life lines that spanned the grid and walk on I-beams to reach the center.
